The Narrative Construction of Differing Conceptions of the Person in the Development of Young Children's Social Understanding.
Richner, Elizabeth S.; Nicolopoulou, Ageliki
Early Education and Development, v12 n3 p393-432 Jul 2001
Used a systematic interpretive analysis of preschoolers' spontaneous narratives over the school year to study the development of their conceptions of the person. Found that girls constructed a socially embedded and interdependent person who becomes increasingly individuated and self-consciously responsible. Boys created a separate and agonistic person, who increasingly becomes a stable, autonomous, and self-conscious mental agent. (Author/KB)
