This article draws together findings of two studies: the first a study of secondary students identified as having high potential and the second a study on encouraging reflective practice and action research with talented students. Analysis and sample case studies illustrate the centrality of the teacher in forming students' attitudes to school and learning and to particular subjects. (Contains references.) (Author/DB)
