Teacher Professional Identity: Competing Discourses, Competing Outcomes.
Sachs, Judyth
Journal of Education Policy, v16 n2 p149-61 Mar-Apr 2001
Identifies two discourses (democratic and managerial) shaping Australian teachers' professional identity. Democratic professionalism (and an activist identity) is emerging from the profession itself; managerialist professionalism (spawning an entrepreneurial identity) is reinforced by employing districts through professional-development policies that emphasize accountability and effectiveness.
