This paper describes the physical and mental health status of African American grandmothers (N=100) who are the primary caregivers for their grandchildren. Findings suggest that the physical functioning of grandmothers eventually gets to a point that can jeopardize the quality of life for their grandchildren. Suggestions for community practice are provided. (JDM)
