Too Academic To Get a Proper Job? The Difficult Transition of PhDs to the "Real World" of Industry.
Cabral-Cardoso, Carlos Jose
Career Development International, v6 n4 p212-17 2001
Responses from more than 1,100 Portuguese doctoral students and Ph.D. graduates in science and technology indicated that 79% preferred jobs in academia; 70% wanted primarily research and development (R&D), but only 45% wanted industrial R&D. They generally feel overqualified for most jobs in industry and anticipate a difficult adjustment to that environment. (Contains 19 references.) (SK)
