Towards a Theory of Aboutness, Subject, Topicality, Theme, Domain, Field, Content...and Relevance.
Hjorland, Birger
Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology, v52 n9 p774-78 Jul 2001
In information science, it is important to consider the nature and meaning of theories of aboutness, subject analysis and related concepts, which are closely related to theoretical and metatheoretical issues in information retrieval (IR). A theory of IR must specify which concepts should be regarded as synonymous concepts and explain how the meaning of the nonsynonymous concepts should be defined. (Author/AEF)
