Gender Bias in Families and Its Clinical Implications for Women.
Atwood, Nancy C.
Social Work, v46 n1 p23-36 Jan 2001
Women (N=45) were surveyed about the gender bias evidenced in their mothers' and brothers' relationships and how this influenced their lives. Several legacies from the girlhood experience of gender bias were identified that may be associated with depression, such as involvement in demeaning relationships and an isolating distrust of relationships. Presents suggestions for therapists to assist with these problems. (JDM)
