Clinical Staff as Mentors in Pre-Registration Undergraduate Nursing Education: Students' Perceptions of the Mentors' Roles and Responsibilities.
Chow, Filomena L. W.; Suen, Lorna K. P.
Nurse Education Today, v21 n5 p350-58 Jul 2001
Nursing students (n=22) mentored by hospital staff during clinical placements viewed the assisting and guiding roles of mentors as most crucial. The befriending role facilitated their integration into placement settings. Advising and counseling were less important. Mentor roles having a direct instrumental effect on their learning had the highest priority. (Contains 25 references.) (SK)
