The Project Method and the Stubborn Grammar of Schooling: A Milwaukee Story.
Levine, David
Educational Foundations, v15 n1 p5-24 Win 2001
Examines a 1920s campaign to implement the project method in Milwaukee public schools, following the perilous road it traveled from exemplary model to urban classrooms, and arguing that public high schools have been very resistant to pedagogical innovations which might unleash students' learning potential. The impact of this reform, started by Dewey and his colleagues, on Milwaukee schools is discussed. (SM)
