Individual Differences in Effectiveness of Cochlear Implants in Children Who Are Prelingually Deaf: New Process Measures of Performance.
Pisoni, David B.; Cleary, Miranda; Geers, Ann E.; Tobey, Emily A.
Volta Review, v101 n3 p111-64 Sum 1999
This article discusses research that examined the effectiveness of cochlear implants. Findings indicate children implanted at younger ages do better, children who have been deaf a shorter time do better, and higher-level central processes such as perception, attention, learning, and memory may play important roles in explaining effectiveness differences.
