A study of 1993 proficiency test results in Ohio found that school district scores were related to various district characteristics: school district wealth, percentage of minorities, attendance, school district size, and percentage of single-parent families. A current study in rural southeastern Ohio focuses on student and parent attitudes toward the 4th-grade test, which is linked to promotion. (SV)
