Examines the relationship between psychosocial development and self-esteem among freshmen in Hong Kong (N=449). Results reveal that the developmental tasks of the Student Developmental Task and Lifestyle Inventory were unique and reliable predictors of self esteem. Indicates that Hong Kong students lag behind U.S. students in terms of development in nonacademic domains, but attain higher achievement in the academic domain. (Contains 45 references and 4 tables.)
