Positive Consequences of Sibling Conflict in Childhood and Adulthood.
Bedford, Victoria Hilkevitch; Volling, Brenda L.; Avioli, Paula Smith
International Journal of Aging and Human Development, v51 n1 p53-69 2000
Attempts to integrate two disparate literatures on sibling conflict in childhood with potential benefits of conflictual sibling relations for adult well being. Presents descriptive data on benefits of children's sibling conflicts from interviews with middle-age and older adults. Recommends that future research on adult social relations consider the ways conflict may contribute to both good and bad developmental outcomes. (Author/JDM)
