Northern Ireland--State of the Arts? An Evaluation of the Use of the Arts in Teaching Caring.
Grindle, Norma C.; Dallat, John
Nurse Education Today, v21 n3 p189-96 Apr 2001
In a survey of 111 teachers of nursing in Northern Ireland, 77% used the arts, most commonly literature. Themes in relation to outcomes of arts use included enjoyment, stimulation, and motivation; understanding, insight, and empathy; and learning and memory. Many felt restricted by lack of training and negative attitudes toward the validity of the arts in teaching. (SK)
