Reforming Mathematics Instruction in Two Elementary Classrooms: A Comparative Study of the Experiences of a Chinese Teacher and an American Teacher.
Wang, Jian
Teaching and Change, v8 n2 p176-214 Win 2001
Explored how Chinese and American elementary mathematics teachers changed their conception and practice, examining the impact of instructional context. Observations and interviews with teachers who were reforming their instruction indicated that they were dissatisfied with their prior practice. Their conceptual change was shaped by specific images of reform-minded teaching. Their change in practice was also influenced by instructional context. (SM)
