Mate Selection among Married and Cohabiting Couples.
Blackwell, Debra L.; Lichter, Daniel T.
Journal of Family Issues, v21 n3 p275-302 Apr 2000
Examines comparative patterns of educational and racial assortative mating or homogany among married and cohabiting couples, and evaluates whether women and men trade in socioeconomic status and racial caste prestige. Lists several findings, including married/cohabiting couples are highly homogenous with respect to race and education. Suggests research can no longer ignore the different mate selection processes of cohabiting couples. (Author/JDM)
