California universities do not take Chicano studies any more seriously than they did 30 years ago when the need was first brought to their attention. Meanwhile, Latino populations have exploded, and other fields, notably health care, want Latino professionals and research information about Latinos. This underdevelopment of Chicano studies hampers the state's ability to create an inclusive, economically dynamic future. (TD)
