The Impact of a Natural Disaster on Classroom Curricula.
Zevenbergen, Andrea A.; Sigler, Ellen A.; Duerre, Lori J.; Howse, Eva
Journal of Educational Thought/Revue de la Pensee Educative, v34 n3 p285-304 Dec 2000
Reports on curricula adjustments after the 1997 Red River Flood forced schools to end the academic year five weeks early. Fifty-seven teachers from five elementary schools in Grand Forks (North Dakota) answered the study questionnaire. Finds that, following the flood, teachers spent more time reviewing material from the previous year and helping children cope with the flood through discussion, reading, drawing, and writing.
