Differently Academic? Constructions of "Academic" in Higher Education.

Studied the perceptions of 14 female college students in England, most of whom were nontraditional students, taking women's studies about women's studies combined with a range of other second subjects traditionally labelled as "academic" and how they thought the wider world valued the academic nature of their subjects. Suggests some alternate ways for institutions of higher learning to consider the meaning of "academic." (SLD)
