Changing Language Attitudes: The Stigmatisation of Khoekhoegowap in Namibia.
de V. Cluver, August D.
Language Problems & Language Planning, v24 n1 p77-100 Spr 2000
Language attitudes are long-term phenomena that tend to become more specific over generations. The stigmatization of Khoekhoegowap in Namibia shows how negative images of minority languages are generated by external forces, but also how these forces may be reinforced by corresponding internal forces. This article discusses the case of Khoekhoegowap on three levels: the external level, the theoretical level, and the empirical level. (Author/VWL)
