The Effectiveness of Peer Mediation in a Low-SES Rural Elementary School.
Bell, Stephen K.; Coleman, Jennifer K.; Anderson, Adam; Whelan, James P.; Wilder, Cherie
Psychology in the Schools, v37 n6 p505-16 Nov 2000
Examines the effectiveness of a peer mediation program in which 6th-8th grade students (N=30) were trained to serve as mediators for peers in conflict. Mediators' responses to written tests indicated increased knowledge of mediation skills after training. Results reveal that 32 of 34 mediations resulted in satisfactory conflict resolution and that school-wide suspensions decreased during the intervention year. (Contains 24 references and 3 tables.)
