Counseling Students' Conceptions of Substance Dependence and Related Initial Interventions.
Carroll, Jane J.
Journal of Addictions & Offender Counseling, v20 n2 p84-93 Apr 2000
Reports that counseling students who have received varying amounts of instruction in substance abuse counseling differ in their choices of initial interventions with a hypothetical client and in conceptualization of substance dependence. Discusses implications for counseling practice and counselor education and supervision. Suggests that to help students' awareness, substance abuse counseling should be included in counselor preparation curricula. (Author/JDM)
