An Investigation of How Perceptions of Mathematics Ability Can Affect Elementary Statistics Performance.
Galagedera, Don; Woodward, George; Degamboda, Sunanda
International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, v31 n5 p679-89 Sep-Oct 2000
Investigates the effects of perceived mathematics ability (PMA) on the learning process with special reference to undergraduates (N=147) following an elementary statistics (ES) course. Concludes that PMA itself is not a good predictor of ES performance; rather, its effect may be challenged through interest, expected grade, and motivation to do well in ES. (Contains 20 references.)
