Interpretations of Independent Learning in the Early Years.

Structured interviews were conducted to examine how teachers, parents, and 3- to 7-year-olds perceive independent learning. Major findings suggest that children's abilities to think and act independently are underestimated by teachers, particularly for children at the older end of the age range studied. Children became more teacher dependent during the first few years in school. (Author/KB)
