Perceptions of Communicative Control Strategies in Mother-Daughter Dyads across the Life Span.
Morgan, Melanie; Hummert, Mary Lee
Journal of Communication, v50 n3 p48-64 Sum 2000
Investigates perceptions (of young, middle-aged and older adult participants) of control strategies (indirect, direct, or no control) used in conversation by a middle-aged woman confronting her daughter or her mother. Finds judgments of family control strategies were similar regardless of target of control; and none of the control strategies investigated was perceived as guaranteeing a pleasant interaction. (SR)
