Gender, Ethnicity, and Classroom Discourse: Communication Patterns of Hispanic and White Students in Networked Classrooms.
Wolfe, Joanna
Written Communication, v17 n4 p491-519 Oct 2000
Explores ethnic and gender differences in classroom conversational styles by comparing student involvement in face-to-face and computer-mediated discussions. Finds that white males participated more frequently than other groups in the face-to-face setting, and white women benefited more from computer-mediated communication. Notes Hispanic women participated frequently in face-to-face communication, spoke more than Hispanic males, and disliked computer-mediated conversations. (SC)
