Operationalization and Predictive Utility of Mother-Daughter Synchrony.

The relationship between mother-daughter synchrony and adolescent girls' self-esteem and academic competence was examined for 212 daughters and their mothers using the Mother-Daughter Synchrony Scale (MDSS). Results show that synchrony between mother and daughter, as perceived by the daughter, was significantly related to the daughter's self-esteem and academic competence. Utility of the MDSS for clinicians is discussed. (Author/MKA)
