Lifelong Learning through Computer-Mediated Communication: Potential Roles for UK Public Libraries.
Kendall, Margaret
New Review of Libraries and Lifelong Learning, v1 p81-101 2000
Computer-mediated communication (CMC) in public libraries can contribute to lifelong learning and social inclusion. Its use in libraries is hindered by concerns about privacy, limited resources, and beliefs that free Internet access is justifiable only for information, not communication. CMC in fiction/reader services, family history, community information networks, and citizenship information are some ways it can be used in libraries. (SK)
