Disenfranchised Grief among First-Semester Male University Students: Implications for Systemic and Individual Intervention.
Gold, Joshua M.; Neururer, Julie; Miller, Melani
Journal of the First-Year Experience & Students in Transition, v12 n1 p7-27 2000
Responses of 178 first-semester, male college students to a questionnaire of grief reactions during the transition process revealed grief was affected by: (1) being first in one's family to attend college; (2) distance from home; and (3) frequency of home visits. Higher grievers, regardless of ethnicity, evidenced greater pessimism toward college life in general. (Author/DB)
