Profiles and Preparation of Urban School Principals: A Comparative Study in the United States and China.
Su, Zhixin; Adams, Jeanne P.; Mininberg, Elliot
Education and Urban Society, v32 n4 p455-80 Aug 2000
Surveyed and interviewed Chinese and American principals to determine their attitudes, characteristics, and preparation to be principals. More differences than similarities were evident. Chinese principals were generally older, male, and less educated. Most Americans became principals by choice, while Chinese principals were appointed. Chinese principals received lower salaries. American and Chinese preservice and inservice principal education differed significantly. (SM)
