Enemies of Critical Thinking: Lessons from Social Psychology Research.
Douglas, Nancy L.
Reading Psychology, v21 n2 p129-44 Apr-Jun 2000
Examines changes in definitions of critical thinking. Explores two strands of social psychology research, one providing evidence for the notion that people find it much easier to believe than to disbelieve, and the other suggesting that once beliefs are formed, they are extremely resistant to change. Discusses how these tendencies are able to operate simultaneously in humans. (SC)
