The Spelling Performance of ESL and Native Speakers of English as a Function of Reading Skill.
Wade-Woolley, Lesly; Siegel, Linda S.
Reading and Writing: An Interdisciplinary Journal, v9 n5-6 p387-406 Dec 1997
Examines accuracy as a function of native language and reading ability of grade two children who spelled pseudo-words and real words. Substantiates the hypothesis that poor readers would spell more poorly than average readers. Finds second language speakers also displayed phonological deficits relative to native speakers; however, they performed in a manner similar to native speakers. (NH)
