Investigates to what extent children at different stages of development use large units such as rimes and small units such as phonemes and graphemes of sound-to-spell correspondence. Finds (1) children do not always make use of the analogy strategy; and (2) when the potential to use rime-based units is highlighted by task demands, young children make use of analogy in spelling.
