Singing Off Key: A Racial Critique of Elementary School Songbooks.

Investigated the representation of people of African ancestry in grade school music materials. Examination of nearly 70 years of songbooks (1930-1995) from one publisher's series determined that the books are saturated with negative, racist stereotypes and that such representations most likely impact children negatively as they read and sing.
