English Skills, Earnings, and the Occupational Sorting of Mexican Americans Working along the U.S.-Mexico Border.
Mora, Marie T.; Davila, Alberto
International Migration Review, v34 n1 p133-57 Spr 2000
Analyzes whether English skills differently affect earnings and occupational sorting of border versus non-border Mexican Americans, examining areas with predominantly language minority residents and with English-dominant residents. Results find comparable English deficiency earnings penalties for Mexican immigrants, suggesting that they respond to English-specific regional wage gaps. U.S.-born men have larger earnings penalties along the border. (SM)
