Parental Involvement in Deaf Children's Education Programs as a Predictor of Child's Language, Early Reading, and Social-Emotional Development.
Calderon, Rosemary
Journal of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education, v5 n2 p140-55 Spr 2000
This study examined the impact of parental involvement on four outcomes for 28 young children with hearing loss. Although parental involvement was a significant positive predictor of early reading skills, maternal communication skill and the child's degree of hearing loss were more significant predictors for positive language and academic development. Maternal use of additional services predicted poorer social-emotional adjustment. (Contains extensive references.) (Author/DB)
