Interviewed satisfied elementary teachers to investigate factors related to recruitment and retention. Respondents tended to aspire to teaching for years before beginning their training. Greater understanding of teacher needs and positive attitudes toward teaching influenced recruitment. Attitudes of others influenced retention. The main reasons teachers enjoyed teaching were working with children, nurturing children's learning, and having collegial relationships with colleagues. (SM)
