Spirituality-Focused Genograms: Keys to Uncovering Spiritual Resources in African American Families.
Dunn, Adriana Balaguer; Dawes, Sharese Johnson
Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development, v27 n4 p240-54 Oct 1999
Little attention has been paid to the overlap of the religious and therapeutic worlds. Spiritual issues can be considered in the context of family dynamics as well as cultural factors, including gender, socioeconomic status, language, geographic origins, and issues of racism and oppression. Discusses two genograms as examples of spirituality-focused therapy. The genogram allows for expression of spiritual and religious heterogeneity that exists in the African American culture.
