Caregiving in Attachment Relationships: A Perspective for Counselors.
Pistole, M. Carole
Journal of Counseling & Development, v77 n4 p437-46 Fall 1999
Examines how caregiving, an aspect of attachment theory, can be applied in counseling. Begins with an overview of attachment theory, then focuses on counselor's position as caregiver, adult relationship issues, and termination of counseling. States that a counselor's attention to a client's attachment style during early sessions may enhance security and client's evaluation of alliance, especially for those not accustomed to experiencing secure attachment relationships.
