Predictors of Moral Reasoning among African American Children: A Preliminary Study.
Humphries, Marisha L.; Parker, Bonita L.; Jagers, Robert J.
Journal of Black Psychology, v26 n1 p51-64 Feb 2000
Examined how gender, grade level, empathy, and cultural orientation influenced fifth and eighth grade African American students' moral judgements. Students completed a variety of assessments. There was greater endorsement of communalism among girls than boys. Grade was a significant predictor of moral reasoning. The full complement of predictive relationships among communal orientation, empathy, and moral reasoning emerged only among boys. (SM)
