Psychology and Mathematics Education.
Fischbein, Efraim
Mathematical Thinking and Learning, v1 n1 p47-58 1999
Analyzes the relationship between cognitive psychology as a broad theoretical framework, and the psychology of mathematics education. Argues that mathematics education should not simply borrow from cognitive psychology; rather, it should provide its own psychological research problems, adapted investigation strategies, and adequate original concepts. Presents some examples that emphasize the difference between a broad cognitive approach and that of psychology of mathematics education. (Author/ASK)
