Interviews with 31 principals in Rochester, New York, showed that most administrators valued parent participation. Counting onsite volunteers is misguided, since many parents support their children's learning at home. Successful programs involved frequent reports to parents, a welcoming building, home-base teachers, and parents in important roles. (MLH)
