"To Be or Not To Be": Absurd and Humoristic Descriptions as a Strategy To Avoid Idyllic Life Stories--Boys Write about Family Life.
Hallden, Gunilla
Gender and Education, v11 n4 p469-79 Dec 1999
Examines stories written by adolescent boys on the theme, "My Future Family." Stories reflected how boys explored male identity through the main character. Boys completed the assignment differently, connecting to various styles and genres (not found in girls' stories) and portraying widely varying main characters. Stories combined fantasy, absurdism, and escapism and used humor to turn in unexpected directions. (SM)
