Schooling and Racialized Masculinities: The Diploma, Teachers, and Peers in the Lives of Young, African American Men.
Price, Jeremy N.
Youth & Society, v31 n2 p224-63 Dec 1999
Describes a study investigating two young, working class, African American men's differing meanings of diplomas, relationships with teachers, and relationships with male peers in the production of their racial, masculine identities. Data from interviews with the students indicate that though they were from similar social locations, they developed different meanings of relationships and experiences in and out of school. (SM)
