Mentors and Proteges: Establishing Systems of Assisted Performance in Preservice Teacher Education.
Clifford, Elaine Finlay
Early Child Development and Care, v156 p35-52 Sep 1999
This study examined mentoring practice, mentor characteristics, and factors influencing development of mentor-protege relationships in preservice teacher education programs. Questionnaire responses indicated three important mentor characteristics: nurturer, expert colleague, and role model. Mentors and proteges felt that long-term placement had allowed time for relationship development. Vygotskian principles were relevant regarding the sociocultural context of learning in the mentor-protege relationship. (Author/KB)
