Family Structure Differences in the Timing of Leaving Home: Exploring Mediating Factors.
Cooney, Teresa M.; Mortimer, Jeylan T.
Journal of Research on Adolescence, v9 n4 p367-93 1999
Used panel data in event history analysis examining association between family structure and departure from parental home, specifically possible mediators (parent-child relationship quality, household work efforts, psychological efficacy, family/personal income, peer involvement, childbearing). Single-parent family structure (and for girls, stepfamily structure) predicted early home-leaving. For girls, having a child and doing more housework increased likelihood of early departure. (EV)
