Instructional Components That Predict Treatment Outcomes for Students with Learning Disabilities: Support for a Combined Strategy and Direct Instruction Model.
Swanson, H. Lee
Learning Disabilities Research and Practice, v14 n3 p129-40 Sum 1999
Review of 180 intervention studies identified instructional components that best predicted effect sizes for students with learning disabilities. These included sequencing, drill-repetition-practice feedback, segmentation of information, technology (structure-presentation medium), controlling task difficulty (e.g., scaffolding), modeling problem-solving steps, presenting cues to prompt strategy use, supplementing teacher instruction, and directed response/questioning. A combined direct/strategy instructional model is recommended. (Author/DB)
