The Relevance of GCSE Mathematics and English as Preparation for Employment.
Hall, Ian; Hardman, Frank; Smith, Fay; Taverner, Sally
Journal of Vocational Education and Training: The Vocational Aspect of Education, v51 n2 p283-304 1999
Interviews with British employers, employees, and teachers indicate that employers and employees find much of what is taught in General Certificate of Secondary Education math and English is not relevant. They desire practical mathematics, oral communication, and interpersonal skills. Teachers feel that education has a broader role than preparation for work. (SK)
