"Hey, Those Shoes Are Out of Uniform": African American Girls in an Elite High School and the Importance of Habitus.
Horvat, Erin McNamara; Antonio, Anthony Lising
Anthropology & Education Quarterly, v30 n3 p317-42 Sep 1999
Examined how race and class influenced the lives of six African-American high school seniors at a predominantly White, elite, independent secondary school. Interaction of the dominant habitus with the individual habitus of these students results in a form of symbolic violence students are willing to endure for the advantages of attending the school.
