Describes development of a unit on friendship in which sixth- and eighth-grade language-arts students communicated ideas about friendship presented in literature with each other through dialog journals; students also created individual collages depicting various aspects of friendship. Concludes that students developed meaningful insights about literature and the nature of friendship and that the unit fostered important student interaction. (KB)
